Pro-LGBTQIA Companies and Why You Should Support Them

In the midst of all the activism taking place since the United States' most recent President has unleashed a wave of bigotry and hatred across the country, there are several companies that are outspoken in their support of marginalized groups - such as the LGBTQIA community.

Companies both big and small have thrown their support towards ending discrimination and persecution of LGBTQIA individuals. These companies are vital to ensuring the future of activism in corporate America stays alive.

A short list:
  • Oreo
  • Betty Crocker
  • Cheerio's
  • Levi's
  • Disney World
  • American Apparel
  • Wheaties
  • Starbucks
  • Tide
  • Microsoft
  • Pampers
  • Home Depot
  • Safeway
  • Pepsi
  • Old Navy
  • Crest Toothpaste
  • Macy's
  • JC Penny
  • Target
  • Walgreen's
  • Pillsbury
  • Ford
  • Gap
  • Green Giant
  • Lush Cosmetics
  • Apple
  • Facebook
  • NIKE
  • Ben & Jerry's
  • eBay
  • Google
  • AT&T
  • Instagram
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Marc Jacobs
  • Citi
  • Orbitz
  • Goldman Sachs
  • Expedia
  • Marriott International
  • Cisco
  • MasterCard
  • Jet Blue
  • Amazon
  • American Airlines
  • Barnes & Noble
  • CBS Corporation
  • DIRECTV
  • General Electric Company
  • Groupon
  • Pandora

Okay, that wasn't exactly short. But that is kind of the point. These companies have worked hard to ensure that they've made public statements to unapologetically announce their support for their LGBTQIA community. Though they've all received backlash for their stance, each one has held their ground in support of equal rights and encourage a future of equality across the globe.

As consumers, we should support these companies and their ability to have a stance and defend it. For too long, companies were under the impression that they should remain neutral in social issues. Something important to remember: "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor."A quote by Desmond Tutu, which is relevant now and forever in the midst of activism and social change.
